Throwback Thursday | ’93 fall sports postseason

With both volleyball and cross country going to state and football starting the playoffs tonight,  this week’s throwback Thursday goes to the fall season of 1993.

Football went 8-2 on the year with a season ending loss to Olpe in the playoffs, 0-6. The Chargers will face Pleasanton on the road tonight for a shot at Wabaunsee’s first playoff victory since 1983, and potentially second in school history.

The volleyball team qualified for its second straight state tournament. The team finished in third place. The Chargers begin tomorrow in Dodge City in an attempt to defend the school’s only state volleyball championship.

The cross country team saw its boys team and Lori Heigert make it to the state meet. The boys finished sixth as a team and Heigert finished in the top half. Two runners will compete Saturday in Victoria: sophomore Rebekah Stuhlsatz and freshman Sienna Jones. Stuhlsatz placed last year, and hopes to medal once again.

“Faces,” the 1994 Charger yearbook, was edited by Kerry Hillard and advised by Karen Johnson.
