Multiple wrestlers advance to the regional round
Four wrestlers will compete in the regional tournament tomorrow at Rossville. Senior Derek Wallin was district champion. Senior Eli Mumpower was runner up. Freshman Alex Beggs and junior Marek Boatwright both finished in 4th place.
Wrestlers placing in the top 4 will advance to sub-state the following weekend.
Boys basketball on a roll
Boys basketball has been on a roll lately. The boys are currently on a three game win streak, started at Lyndon on February 2nd after they pulled off the upset win, 49-42. Juniors Brayden Meseke and Cade Oliver both led the team in scoring with 13. Lyndon was ranked 7th in 2A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and has been ranked as high as 2nd.
Friday, boys basketball went to Rossville and won easily 60-43. Sophomore Eli Oliver scored 18 points. On Tuesday the boys faced county rival Mission Valley. They won 49-42 with an outstanding performance by Meseke. He had 22 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.
“It helps that we have everyone healthy and out of quarantine.” junior Cade Oliver said. “We’ve been a lot more high energy during the games and played with intensity during the last three games.”
The team faces Riley County Friday at home, looking to improve its 4-10 record and add another MEL win.
Girls basketball looks to bounce back after loss to Mission Valley
Girls basketball lost its last two games and have been without junior Lauren Schutter due to injury. After beating Lyndon on the road 47-38, they went on to lose to Rossville, 53-40 and Mission Valley 47-37.
The team faces Riley County at home as they look to get out of their slump. Girls lost to Riley County last time 45-10. Three freshmen started that game: Karli Meseke, Kaci Meseke and Taryn Maike.
The players have worked to improve since they last faced the Falcons. “We’ve focused on eliminating turnovers and getting offensive rebounds,” Maike said.
