Throwback Thursday | 1996: Inaugural year of WHS baseball, softball

To celebrate opening day of the spring sports season, we go back to 1996 — the first year for Wabaunsee’s baseball and softball teams.

Coach Lietz explained how the team’s season began. “We did not have much success in our first three games. However, the players did set a trend in these games that continued throughout the season, being a constant improvement from one game to another, which is vitally important to a new program.”

The team ended the season 6-8.

In softball, the team ended the year 4-11, but would go on to be one of the Chargers most successful programs, earning state titles in both 2007 and 2018.
